Queridos amigos!!! (ENGLISH VERSION BELOW!!)
Una nueva aventura esta por comenzar. Estamos en el Calafate, Argentina. Hospedándonos en el mítico albergue de montaña "La Cueva", del que poco queda tras un incendio pero que se reconstruye vigorosamente con mucha buena onda y sudor.
Tras finalizar los últimos preparativos para la expedición estamos en el "Cambalache" tomándonos algo y despidiéndonos de la civilización con una sesión de internet. Por delante tenemos 30 días en Campo de Hielo Sur, durante los que intentaremos ingresar al hielo por una ruta nueva e intentar el primer ascenso del Volcán Aguilera, una de las cumbres más prominentes inescaladas de la Patagonia y tal vez el último gran volcán inescalado de los Andes.
Mañana en la mañana zarparemos desde Pto. Punta Bandera en el Lago Argentino rumbo al Brazo Spegazzini, desde donde nos montaremos en el Campo de Hielo Sur para iniciar una travesía de 50 km hasta la base del Volcán. Si alguien decide mirar los mapas se preguntará por que no entramos desde los fiordos, que es mucho más cerca, y la respuesta es que simplemente queremos intentar algo nuevo, ya que desde los 80, seis expediciones han intentado sin éxito aproximarse desde el mar, así que vamos a ver si por acá tenemos mejor suerte.

A new adventure is about to begin. We are currently in El Calafate, Argentina, on the shore of Lago Argentino. The team and all our equipment is staying in the mythical "mountain" hut appropriately called "The Cave", of which little remains following a recent fire, but which is vigorously being rebuilt with great spirit and hard work.
Having completed the final preparations of the expedition, we are in the resaturant Cambalache having a drink and enjoying our last contact with civilization for some time - the internet. Looking ahead we have 30 days on the South Patagonian Icefield, during which we intend to enter the icefield via a new route and attempt the first ascent of Volcán Aguilera, one of the most prominent unclimbed summits in Patagonia, and quite possibly the last great unclimbed stratovolcano of the Andes.
Tomorrow in the morning put forth from Puerto Punto Bandera to cross Lago Argentino to the Spegazzini Arm of the lake, from which we will climb onto the South Patagonian Icefield to begin our 50km traverse to the base of the volcano. Looking at maps of the area, one might ask why we aren't approaching the volcano from the fjords, which are clearly much closer. Well, we intend to try something new, as the six expeditions since 1980 have all unsuccessfully attempted that approach. We will see if our luck is better with the icefield approach.
